February 15, 2008 Brown County Historical Society Newsletter
Written By: Christy Fuenfhausen, Executive Director and Curator

Happy Birthday!!!! The historical society has turned 30 years old and I
hope that each and every one of you can join us in these exciting times.
This year started off with snow and ice and as I sit here typing this article
more snow has covered Northeast Kansas.  Here in Brown County alone,
we have anywhere between 8 and 10 inches of that lovely cold white
stuff.  Keeping locked away in my office with the heater turned on high I
am able to keep warm and type some thoughts down.

The Brown County Historical Society began with an interest to see one
less building destroyed.  Today seeing what the historical society has done
and will be doing in the future makes me very proud to be apart of the
growth and expansion of such an exciting organization.

Tourism is important to the growth of any community.  Tourism affects
every business or industry through lodging, food service, where you buy
your gas or where you buy the collectible to remember your visit.   We
have so much to offer our community through the annual programs we
host, such as Heritage Day, the Ice Cream Social and Summerfest, or
through our new programs, such as guest lecturers or festivals we attend.

Please make it your goal to visit us in 2008.  You made the BCHS who we
are, so let’s make it another 30 years with new and exciting growth.
